While most of Larry McMurtry’s novels are somewhat enjoyable, this recounting of his life with books is boring. In fact, the prose is so clunky readers may wonder if it was written by the same man who penned Duane’s Depressed and Cadillac Jack. When it comes to recounting his life as a bookseller and -searcher, McMurtry is a lot less entertaining than when he’s recounting the antics of various fictional Texas scalawags.
