Let’s Explore the Animals at the Zoo allows very young readers to thoroughly explore the variety of animals at — where else? — the zoo. Elephants, tigers, giraffes, ostriches, sea lions, penguins, turtles, and sloths are just a few of the creatures seen during the visit, and their special traits are mentioned (“Say, have you met the sea lions yet? / Their home is icy cold and wet”).
This is a good book to read with children ages 2-5 before or after a trip to the zoo, especially a first one, or as a way to relive a special trip, such as a birthday or school visit.
The rhymes by Jolas Wittler are funny and informative, and the illustrations by Kama Towcik are lush and fertile. Young readers will feel like they’ve really visited a zoo when the last page is turned.
